VIDEO SEQUENCES FOR PREPARED MONITOR

JOSÉE BROUILLARD (QC-CA)
Video Installation

Josée Brouillard presents Video Sequences for Prepared Monitor, an immersive video installation shown in total darkness. Through an invisible mechanism, the artist offers a reflection on and experience of the idea of framing and its limits. While light is the main subject – in other words, the material that motivates Brouillard’s practice – colour is nowhere to be seen. The image of the dancer in movement under warm lighting seems to float and appears to overflow into and encroach on the spectator’s space. The boundaries between the spectator’s sphere and the video become blurred, and their intersection destabilizes the viewer’s perception.
