THE DANCING UMBRELLAS

Kinetic Installation

The Dancing Umbrellas is a series of kinetic sculptures created using umbrellas. Each umbrella/dancer is a metal exoskeleton, the anatomical structure of which has been transformed. This kinetic installation is reminiscent of performance art. Mechanical bodies perform an unpredictable dance seemingly at will. The deconstructed umbrellas shed their inert state as everyday objects to become active entities. The mechanical behaviour is like that of humans and is strangely fascinating.
