TO STAB

Performance

'Du Preez/Gui' consists of South African artist Nelmarie du Preez and her robot Gui who stand as equal actors in a performance-based artistic collective. Their collaborative work aims to reveal questions with regards to 'the self' constituted by 'the other' in the mapping of relation. With their first live performance of 'to stab', which forms part of the series 'Loops of Relation' (2013), they will test the encounters and collisions between their two 'bodies' by playing the knife game (reminiscent of a similar scene in the movie Alien (1986).

Performances schedule:

June 3 - 7 p.m.

June 4 - 8:30 p.m.

For the serie Loops of Relation, Nelmarie du Preez established a collective named "Du Preez/Gui" between herself and her computer, where they stand as equal actors in a performance-based artistic collaboration. In these works, Du Preez/Gui aim to question the mapping of relation, by means of interactivity. Taking inspiration from the works of performance artists Marina Abramovic and Ulay, du Preez/Gui use their ‘bodies’ to explore the parameters that drive the dynamics of a symbiotic relationship.
